New Math?

A few days ago, the local paper ran a notice that Palin would be here in Ohio doing fundraising.

This isn't particularly surprising. What caught my attention was the price for the meetup in Cincinnati.

$2,500 for a single person or $10,000 for a couple.

Interesting discount program the republicans are running - Bring your wife or husband along for just 4 times the price of a single ticket. This ticket price is to see the woman who was for the Bridge to Nowhere, then when the uproar over it started, she said "thanks but no thanks" (after the money was approved, mind you), and then kept the money to use for other things.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that sort of a no-no?

Somehow that makes perfect sense given the insanity of the Republican candidates...

Hey, McCain did say that he didn't know anything about economics. I think this just sort of proves it unless you think the photo you supposedly get to have taken with Palin should you buy the couples ticket is worth the extra 5 grand.

Of course, if you don't want the couples ticket, you could always opt for the $25,000 VIP reception tickets. (I believe that was per person, though I may be mistaken).

These are the people that so many of the residents in this area want leading the country? People who seem to think that 2*2500 = 10000? A supposed "maverick" that votes with Bush 90% of the time and the governor of a state with a population less than that of the capitol of this state who has, by the way, been immersed in scandal since she was allegedly vetted?

I think I'll pass.

Current mood: tired
Current music: none

I had a dream last nI had a dream last night
Of my beloved, strong and bright
Shining with unearthly light

With eyes and breath flashing fire
Leaving behind him a funeral pyre
The flames reaching forever higher

His every inch of armored scale
That shattered weapon without fail
His every breath a rising gale

I had a dream last night
Where my love's color blinded sight
And every warrior paled in fright

His wings aurora against the sky
About him powers drawing nigh
None daring to trust him too close by

Glowing with a fiery essence
Surrounding him a shimmering incandescence
Leaving a trail of divine iridescence

When even those who knew his true name
Feared his strength and random flame
And my love for him was still the same

The same.

I'm surprised at you. I didn't realize you didn't fully evaluate both candidates of both parties. I've read hundreds of articles, listened to probably hundreds of newscasts on network media, and the only scandal that has been able to stick to Palin has been the fact there is no scandal or surprises. Lots of charges and accusations have been leveled against her, but not one has been able to survive long because the facts don't back up the charges. Although I'm voting for Obama, I still find it disheartening that my party makes such charges and insinuations and then can't back them up with accurate facts. Doing stuff like that just because "The Republicans" do it just doesn't hold water for me.

No scandals or shady business? Really?

Like the fact that she claims abstinence only education works yet has a pregnant teenage daughter?

Or the fact that she claims to be well versed in foreign relations yet only got her passport last year?

Or perhaps the whole global warming has nothing to do with people, and the polar bear shouldn't be an endangered species thing?

Or "troopergate" which has been swept under the rug partially because her political appointees refused to do their jobs?

Or that she claimed that she fired the person in question in troopergate for an even worse reason than was originally stated?

Or that she asked her town librarian if the library "could live with censorship of library books.” And then fired the librarian (only to rehire her after public outcry)

Or, one of my personal favorites (which I listed in the entry), got the money for the Bridge to Nowhere, said "thanks but no thanks" and then KEPT the money FOR the Bridge to Nowhere.

I'm sorry, but the list goes on for a while.

And we seem to have a new Anonymous commenter.

Tell me, first anon poster, are you a long time reader and first time caller (as it were), or have you simply come across me recently?

As I stated in my first post... it surprises me you haven't done a thorough inspection of all the facts in every one of the items you mentioned.

It is my fault for presuming by your past posts, even though you are a strong and opinionated person, that you actually try to look at both sides of every situation, make an honest appraisal, and then create an informed opinion based on imperical evidence.

And, as mentioned before, I am a life long democrat and am voting for Barack Obama, but I certainly do not believe everything either side dredges up to disparage an opponent. I long for the time when all political candidates tell me exactly what they are going to do, how they're going to do it, when they're going to do it rather than saying "vote for me" because of the depravity or turpitude of the opposing candidate. But it is't going to happen.

So far, the facts of the case against Mrs. Palin is that she's a newcomer to national politics, a successful woman who finds time for her family, and an honest and certainly imperfect human being. I don't agree with her politics, but from all FACTS so far, she is a decent and honorable person. Not ready to be Vice President, but a good American.

Is much easier for me to believe she is an agent of change because she has a proven record(short as it may be) of bucking the Republican powers 10% of the time. Obama has only bucked the Democratic powers 1% of his time in office. Which one will be the most willing to reach out in bipartisanship to enact real change in this country and which one is the more likely to rubber stamp the wishes of their political party? The candidate who says they'll bring change or the one who's actually implemented change at some level?
Who really knows... but is something to consider.

Keep up the blogging... it makes for interesting reading.

Ever consider that I have done my research and that's why I hold the opinions that I do? Hate to break it to you, but that is indeed the case.

The woman has proven herself to be unfit to lead a pack of cub scouts let alone a state or national government.

On the topic of her "flaws", she has proved that she wants to force her version of "morality" on everyone and will do whatever she wants in order to accomplish that, only backing off if the public outcry is so strong that she doesn't really have a choice.

She won't reach out to the other side. They chose her, in part, because she's a member of the *hard* right and inflexible in that. The GOP was hoping that she would get them the far right voters that hate McCain because they think he's a moderate (which I find laughable).

I also don't think she's that great of a person, to be honest. Her actions show her to be, shall we say, less than desirable in my opinion.

As for a time when politicians actually told you their plans for what they were going to do, that's largely a myth. Politics in this country has always been crazed - even among some of the founding fathers.

At best, you might get a list of issues that the candidate vows to work on. You're not going to get a plan.

You know, with multiple anon comments, it would be helpful if you all put some sort of a signature at the bottom of the comment so I can tell who is who...

Let me distinguish myself. I do not and did not disagree with your politics - for now we seem to have similar views.

As for being a long time reader and first time caller versus coming across you recently, I am not a long term reader. I am a first time caller. I am as new as the first pale green stems of the crocus that break through the snow every winter again and again without fail.

I did not come across you "simply."

I assume you are the one that left the poem as the first anon comment? Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just trying to keep track of who is posting what.

Provided you are the first anon commenter, if you didn't come across me "simply", how, then did you come across me? =]

Did you just look me up recently or have you been keeping an eye on me? Inquiring minds would like to know. *smile*

Stella de Oro y Plata said...

Yes, your assumption is correct. I did leave the poem as the first anonymous comment. I have not been keeping an eye on you. A recent occurrence led me here.

I see.

I doubt the rest of this conversation is suited for public consumption. You might want to take it to email.

Please accept my apologies if I have offended you by questioning your openmindness. It certainly was not my intent to cast aspersions on your views or reproach you in any manner. Is my fault for expecting more from you and your blog than I was led to believe existed. The fault and blame here is all mine, and I do apologize for making incorrect presumptions concerning you.

You do not know me.
For practical purposes I am just another anomymous poster here. A younger friend of mine who knows you... recommended your blog to me for reading... and as it turned out, she knows you and I know your father also, tho' it's been many, many years since I've spoken with or seen him as was his stated desire a long time ago, hence the "anomymous" id.
Again, please accept my apologies. I'll not leave anymore comments.

Nice backhanded insult. Have a cookie.

Just because someone doesn't agree with your assessment of another person/subject doesn't mean they aren't open minded or haven't done research. In fact, it is entirely possible that they have done the research and come away with different conclusions than you have.

You think Palin is a great American. I think she's a waste of flesh. Our differing opinions don't mean that I haven't done my research (or that I'm naive, etc). It means that we have different measures for people.

As for my father, he has no real bearing on my views or who I speak to. However, if you behaved around him in the way you have here recently, I can understand why he asked you leave him alone.
